Soft tissue coverage of cranial defects: an update

نویسندگان

چکیده

Scalp and cranial defects can occur as a result of cutaneous or bony malignancies, trauma, surgical intervention for intracranial tumors. Soft tissue reconstruction composite presents unique challenge given the relative inelasticity scalp, need tension free closure, convex shape cranium. An added complexity is found in patients with large defects, cerebrospinal fluid leak, prior failed reconstruction, infection, previous radiation. Methods materials skull have evolved significantly over years, allowing surgeons to repair even most challenging excellent success rates. This review aims discuss evaluate available soft options cranioplasty coverage, particular focus on hostile reconstructive fields use transfer.

Effectiveness of the Gastrocsoleous Flap for Coverage of Soft Tissue Defects in Leg with Emphasis on the Distal Third

Background: The standard methods for reconstruction of soft tissue defects in the leg include gastrocnemius flap for proximal third defects, soleus flap for middle third and free flap in the distal third. However, there are problems with the use of free flap, like increased operative time, damage of major vessels and the need for experienced microsurgeon. Mathods: This prospective study was und...

Soft tissue coverage of the upper extremity: an overview.

Prehension is a complex function of the hand that gives it mechanical precision combined with a standard sensory pattern. The priority in soft tissue reconstruction for the upper extremity is to restore function. Significant injury to the upper extremity may result after trauma because of various etiologies. The timing and choice of soft tissue coverage for upper extremity defects warrant speci...
